Choosing the screen mesh material is another consideration when figuring out how to screen in a porch.
Fiberglass screen is the common choice for porches because it is less expensive than aluminum screen. It is easier to install because of its flexibility and doesnt crease like metal screen mesh is prone to do.
Metal screen mesh, such as aluminum screen, is more durable than its fiberglass counterpart, which stretches and tears more easily than other types of screen fabric.
If potential damage from pets paws is a concern, screening in a porch at least the bottom portion with pet-resistant screen is an option. Install The Ridge And Rafters
Cut the 2×8 roof plates. If you’re not good at calculating roof angles, start by estimating the angles and cutting the plates an extra 6 in. long. Then set them in place, remark the angles and recut them until they fit. Screw the roof plates through the roof boards into the rafters below. Next measure for the ridge, estimate the angle and cut it a little long. Trim the angle to fit and screw the ridge rafter to the first truss and roof plates. Complete the tie-in by installing a pair of rafters. The framing should be exactly 3/4 in. above the top of the trusses.

Removing And Reinstalling A Patio Door Screen
Step 1: In order to remove the door screen, it must come off of the rollers. Youll see inner screws at the bottom of either side of the screen. Using a Phillips screwdriver, turn the screw counter clockwise to raise the screen up until you see the head of the screw. Repeat on the other side.
Step 2: Raise the screen slightly to find the wheels on either side. Youll want to place the putty knife under the wheel and then push in and lift. Once the wheel is up, you will be able to slide the screen towards you. Do both sides and the screen is removed.
Step 3: When you are ready to reinstall the screen, just line up the top two wheels back inside the track and push up the screen as high as it will go. Hold the screen out slightly and push the wheel up with the putty knife and slide the screen back into the track. Do the same on the other side.
Step 4: Its important to adjust the rollers before using the screen again. Take your Phillips screwdriver, turn the screws clockwise until you see visually see the screen lowering back into the track. Repeat on the other side.

- 4.1 Run two or three beads of caulk over the sill and around the opening where the nailing fin will press against the flashing.

- 4.4 Adjust the shims to centre, square, plumb and level the casing.
- 4.5 Space shims every 12 but at least 8 from the corners. If shims are needed under the sill, space them 8 apart.
- 4.6 Continually check that the door is level and square. Insert enough shims to support the casing, but never force.
- 4.7 Measure the two diagonals of the door frame: they should be identical, with a maximum allowable deviation of 1/8.
- 4.8 Level the casing both horizontally and vertically . The maximum allowable deviation is 1/16. Adjust where necessary.
- 4.9 From the outside, screw in the nailing fin starting with the lower corners, then the upper corners. For a door without a nailing fin, remove the cladding at the sides of the door. Nail the frame to the jambs at the appropriate places, through the shims. Replace the covering materials.
- 4.10 Screw through to the frame of the house.
- 4.11 Do not screw into the header or sill.
