How To Get Rid Of Bird Poop On Patio Furniture

How to clean a stained concrete patio

Of the many things the birds might poop on, perhaps none is as annoying as the patio furniture. If these birds have already pooped on the furniture, is it possible for you to get it out? Yes. Here are the steps that you should take to get rid of the poop.

  • Using a blunt plastic knife, scrape off as much of the poop as you can from the furniture. While doing this, ensure that you do it gently so that you dont end up damaging the furniture. If you dont have a knife available, you could also use a spoon.
  • Fill up a spray bottle with lukewarm water and mix the water with some dishwashing soap. If you dont have that, you could use a poop remover sprayer. Reviews indicate that the Poop-Off Bird Poop Remover is one of the best products for this purpose.
  • Spray the mixture on to the spot affected by bird poop. Then use a brush or soft cloth to gently scrub out the poop from the surface of the furniture. Poop-Off is one of the biggest names in this industry, and the Poop-Off Remover Brush Top is a versatile product that can help you get rid of the poop.
  • If the poop doesnt come out, you could introduce baking soda to the surface. Sprinkle some of the baking soda on the surface and wait for some minutes.
  • Clean the surface with a soft, clean cloth or brush after some minutes. The poop should easily come out of the furniture.

The acidic qualities of bird poop tend to break down with carbonation. That being said, you dont want to pour any type of soda onto your concrete surface, as it may erode if done repeatedly.

Seltzer water will react to any of the bird droppings left on the concrete, bubble for a minute, and eventually runoff. If you are treating a larger area, you may want to dilute the club soda with water, again 50/50, and rinse with that.

You may also choose to rinse with just water, though the remaining stain left behind wont wash off with just water. If not, repeat the steps.

You could first try to move the feeders to the very back of your yard or to your front yard.

Bird droppings are always difficult to clean, whether its a surface or a stone patio. However, almost every homeowner has to deal with bird droppings now and then.

Birds usually like to sit atop high surfaces and look down, and as a result of that, their droppings will usually be found all over the ground, or on the roof of your house.

Needless to say, its going to paint a really poor picture of your house, especially if there are lots of bird droppings on the roof. The real problem is that most people dont know much about how to clean the droppings off their brick surfaces. Bird poop is incredibly acidic, and as a result of that, it tends to dry out very quickly.

Have you ever gotten a bird dropping on your shirt? It dries in under five minutes if you dont clean it, and unless you wash it thoroughly, its definitely going to leave a stain.

Therefore, the essential thing to do is clean the bird droppings as quickly as possible. Treating the spots rapidly is important, otherwise, you will have to change your cleaning strategy.

On top of that, bird poop can often carry disease, so you need to take a few safety measures before you decide to get rid of the bird poop on your own.

The Straight Poop On Bird Stains

Here are some strategies for cleaning up the mess from bird droppings on various vulnerable surfaces:

Safety first

Bird droppings can carry disease, so wear a mask for any large-scale cleanup. Mark Myers, of Clark Pest Control in San Jose, Calif., says it’s a good idea to mist the droppings with water before sweeping to reduce the number of airborne particles. “You can get flu-like symptoms, or worse, from breathing this stuff,” said Myers.

Concrete/brick/stone

Droppings come up pretty easily with a garden hose fitted with a sprayer attachment with some muscle, if you get on them before they bake in the sun. A push broom can help dislodge stubborn splats.

Freddy Howell, owner of the Wild Bird Center in Los Gatos, Calif., recommends the cleaner Simple Green, a stiff brush and plenty of water from the hose. Also worth a try is a half-ounce TSP per gallon of water.

If these relatively gentle methods don’t work, you may need to try a cleaning product specially formulated for concrete.

Remedy of last resort, particularly for that “purple concrete”: muriatic acid. Try a solution of four parts water to one part acid . Wear protective clothing and goggles. This etches the concrete, so you will want to rinse it off as soon as the stain is gone. Have a hose handy.

Fabric awnings should be hosed down. Attack stubborn spots with a bristle brush.

Still see spots? Try some paint polish and elbow grease.
