Curtains are a great way to add charm to any home. They can be merely decorative, or they can serve to block out the light. Many landlords don’t allow renters to drill holes into walls, which is necessary for installing curtain rod hooks. Fortunately, it is still possible to install curtain rods with Command hooks.

I have a great front porch it provides shade from the sun during the day, and in the evening has a great view of the sunsets!

We have neighbors to the left and directly across from us who also love to spend time outside. In an effort to create some privacy and ambiance while enjoying the outdoors on our front porch, I made some really inexpensive PVC pipe curtain rods to hold long, sheer porch curtains.

  • Insert drill bit into drill and pre-drill a hole to fit the screw eye into. Repeat in remaining curtain placement areas.
  • Cut rope length to appropriate length. In my case, I held up the rope between the 2 posts and then added approximately 6 inches on each end to tie knots. Excess can always be cut off later.
  • Then, feed the sisal rope through the rod pocket of the panel. It was easier to make a loop & feed it through.
  • Tie rope off onto screw eye with 2 tight knots.
  • Insert screw into pre-drilled hole. We put our screw eyes at the very top of the posts and slightly underneath and in between the 2 beams. The screw eyes were perpendicular to the ground to ceiling posts.
  • Feed rope through another panel and tie off onto screw eye and insert into place. We hung 4 panels, so repeated this process one more time.
  • Lastly, adjust the panel across the rope so it gathers evenly and then tie off the bottom with remaining strands of sisal rope.
  • I didnt think I would like the loose rope hanging down, but I do like the look and feel it gives the space after all.

A metal patio cover provides shade and some protection from the elements for you and your outdoor guests, but it offers little in the way of privacy or protection from pesky insects. Outdoor curtains installed beneath the patio covering offer the privacy or protection level you desire. Since the cover may not come with a means of curtain installation, sticky-backed hook and loop tape provides a means to hang the curtains and take them down, as needed. Fabric-based curtains may be tied back onto posts, or single panels tied into a knot, when not in use.

  • Wipe down the inside edge or edges of the patio cover with a household cleaner and a damp sponge to remove dust and debris otherwise, the hook-and-loop tape may not adhere. Allow the patio cover to dry completely.

  • Unroll the hook-and-loop tape, holding one end along the inside edge of the patio cover where you want to install the curtain. Secure it in place temporarily with a squeeze clamp or large binder clip.

  • Continue unrolling the hook-and-loop tape, walking toward the opposite end of the patio cover. Hold the tape up against the inside edge of the patio cover and snip it where you would like the curtain to end. Use scissors, or a utility knife if cutting with scissors proves difficult.

  • Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for each side of the patio cover requiring a curtain. Set each strip of hook-and-loop tape near its respective side to avoid confusion.

    How Do Sliding Curtains Work

The conventional design and structure of sliding glass doors are done in two ways. The most common method is one where the glass doors have two panels. One panel is fixed and the other one allows the glass doors to slide open and close. The panel that can be opened and closed is meant to be used as a door. The other way is that there are two panels that can move . These moving panels will be present on both sides of the glass door. There will be one fixed panel in between them that acts as the sturdy window. These types of panels give two forms of exit and entry to the room.

Determine how wide you want to space your knobs. You can go as wide as your panel, or space them in a bit to give a more eased look. Our balcony is L-Shaped with one arm deeper than the other . I hung both panels the full width of the balcony arms, so one is rather taut at the top and one is more eased.

I seem to be the only one that notices this. And here I am pointing it out to you.

Obviously, I trust you with my dirty secrets and consider us good friends!

Measure and mark the placement for your knobs. Start a pilot hole with a drill .

Now screw your drawer pulls onto one end of your dowel screws and then into your pilot holes.

Stating the obvious, hang each ribbon loop over a knob.

Once hung, tie a decorative ribbon loosely around the panel and determine what height you want your locking cup hook.

Now fluff your panel so that the edge by the cup hook hangs down straight and then becomes more loose as it goes out creating the soft drape. This is where, if you have the length the do a loose knot in the panel itself, then slip your ribbon through the knot on the back and into the cup hook. It will hold that drape better for you in blustery weather.

Hanging Outdoor Curtains Without Curtain Rods

Drapery rods are an easy, simple solution for mounting outdoor curtains around your deck or patio area. However, some exterior spaces dont have the kind of structure that supports rod installation. If this is the case for your patio, consider using heavy-gauge exterior steel wire rope to mount your draperies.

Eye hooks and wall anchors can be used to secure one end of the wire to a nearby structure, post, beam or the exterior of your home. Run the other side of the steel wire through the grommets or tab top on each drapery panel you want to hang before mounting the other side with additional eye hooks and wall anchors.

To create a cohesive outdoor space, match the rod style and color to your outdoor door handles and patio furniture.

You can also use ceiling-mounted hardware for brick or stone patio walls. These will screw into your patio ceiling or beams and extend down with a loop to put the curtain rod or wire through.

    Marking Height On Stud Location

For this step, youll need a stud finder. Simply use it for locating studs on both walls, which will have the curtain in between. On each stud, you need to mark down both edges. Use a pencil or marker to make a visible mark. Now you need to measure height at which youd like the curtain to hang from. You can do this from the ceiling or even up from floor.
