A: A lot depends on whether the wax has soaked into the stone or is on the surface. If it is on the surface, place some dry ice on the wax and leave it there for about 20 minutes. You should then be able to scrape the wax off . If, on the other hand, some of the melted wax has soaked into the stone, you will have to apply heat to melt or liquefy the wax so you can remove it with solvent.
Try covering the area with paper towels, then apply an iron set for medium heat. This should melt the wax so it can be absorbed by the paper towels. If this doesn’t get it all out, apply a paste made by mixing dry powdered cement with some turpentine or paint thinner and use a heat lamp to warm the surface. Keep the heat lamp far enough away to avoid overheating but close enough for the heat to penetrate. Remove the paste after an hour or so and repeat, if necessary.

Removing Candle Wax From Natural Stone Fireplaces
We are often asked this question. There is no absolute, fixed answer but there are two or three Lithofin products that usually work. We do not offer any guarantee of outcome as each issue varies but here is the process we use:
You should try Lithofin Wexa first. Wear suitable gloves. Dilute approximately 1:3 with water and apply to the stain. Keep the surface wet with product and agitate with a sponge or brush . You can use a kitchen scouring pad but, again, don’t scratch your stone.
Rinse well after 5 minutes, allow to dry and check results.
If Lithofin Wexa is working but has not quite removed all of the stain it is certainly worth repeating the above process.
If Wexa has not worked you can try Lithofin Oil-Ex. This is a gel that is applied approximately 2mm thick over the stain and left until dry . Brush away the remaining powder.

Remember that Oil Ex will strip any sealers out of your stone. The whole area may require a deep clean with Wexa and then re-sealing.

A. Candle wax can present a few issues. The candle wax that has melted onto the surface and into the pores of the stone and will need to be removed, then if any staining has been left behind, that will need to be treated.
To remove wax from a stone surface: Begin by scraping any solid wax material from the surface of the stone with a plastic scraper. Avoid using metal or any tool that can scratch the stone.
To remove candle wax that melted into the pores of the stone: Use a hot clothing iron and white paper towels to melt and lift any remaining wax. Place the paper towel over the stain and iron it with the hot iron. As the wax softens, it will be absorbed by the paper towels. Be sure to use new paper towels if needed.
Removing residual stains: After you have scraped the wax off and used the iron and paper to absorb embedded wax, soak a clean cloth in water, wring it out and apply a few drops of either degreaser or ammonia. Wipe the stone with the cloth to eliminate the remaining candle residue. Finish by rinsing the surface with water and air dry.
If any staining remains you will need to use a poultice to break down and draw out the stain. Try a poultice with hydrogen peroxide 40 volume .
If that doesnt work after a couple of tries, use paint thinner as your chemical.
