More than likely, the screendoor will have two rollers or plastic glides at the bottom and two at the top which will have to be loosened so that they do not break when the door is removed.
Usually there is some kind of adjustment screw at the edges of the door or sticking up above the roller as in the pictures on the left hand side.
Loosen the adjustment screw until the roller moves in and the door becomes easier to move up and down.
If the screws are rusty, spraying them with WD40 or penetrating oil and waiting a few minutes may help loosen them. If that does not work, figure on getting new rollers.
Lift the screendoor up slightly, you should see the bottom rollers or wheels just poking out the bottom of the screendoor. Just like they are in the pictures.
Take a flat blade screwdriver and slide it under the spring loaded rollers and gently lift them up.
Carefully pry the bottom edge of the door and the roller out over top of the screendoor track where the rollers glide. Lift the entire screen door frame up and out of the bottom screendoor track.
Once you have the screen out, check the rollers to make sure all of the rollers roll easily and adjust properly. Some screendoor rollers require that the frame taken apart before they can be removed.

Remove Slider Door Retaining Screw
Use a screwdriver to remove the retaining screw at the bottom of the sliding screen door. On most doors, this screw is located in the track itself and is positioned where the door cannot be removed without first removing the screw.
Open the Door Half-Way
Slide the screen door so that it is open about halfway.
Grip the Door and Lift
Grip the sliding screen door on both sides and then lift the door so that the bottom of the door comes out of the bottom slider track. Be careful when doing this as some screen doors have fairly sharp edges.
Tilt the Door Inward
Tilt the screen door back towards you as you lift it.
Remove the Screen Door
After you’ve tilted the screen door out at an angle of about 20 to 30 degrees, you should be able to simply pull the top of the door out of the upper track.

For this project you’ll need safety glasses, gloves, a phillips head screwdriver, and a putty knife.
To remove screen door locate the screws at the top and bottom of either side of the screen. Using a phillips screwdriver turn the screw counterclockwise until you see the head of the screw. WD-40 is a great product and I use it all the time. The Blaster garage door lubricant is silicone based and adds the extra promise that dirt won’t buildup on the surface it’s sprayed on. So that’s one big reason I use it.
Check Your Rollers Before Installing The Cloth
The time before you roll the cloth in is also a good time to check the frame and the screen door rollers or glides. Check to see if they adjust up and down when the screws are tightened or released.

Many rollers, and most corners can only be serviced by disassembling the frame. So repair them now before spending any time re-screening or you will just end up repairing the frame again in a few weeks.

Step 1: In order to remove the door screen, it must come off of the rollers. You’ll see inner screws at the bottom of either side of the screen. Using a Phillips screwdriver, turn the screw counter clockwise to raise the screen up until you see the head of the screw. Repeat on the other side.
Step 2: Raise the screen slightly to find the wheels on either side. You’ll want to place the putty knife under the wheel and then push in and lift. Once the wheel is up, you will be able to slide the screen towards you. Do both sides and the screen is removed.
Step 3: When you are ready to reinstall the screen, just line up the top two wheels back inside the track and push up the screen as high as it will go. Hold the screen out slightly and push the wheel up with the putty knife and slide the screen back into the track. Do the same on the other side.
Step 4: It’s important to adjust the rollers before using the screen again. Take your Phillips screwdriver, turn the screws clockwise until you see visually see the screen lowering back into the track. Repeat on the other side.
Putting The Sliding Screen Door Back In Place
Insert the sliding screen door onto the top track at an angle. Ensure the two wheels will rest on the metal track tab.
Push up on the door and allow the bottom two wheels to rest on the bottom track tab.
The door should be securely in place. The last step is to tighten the two screws on the top of the door that were loosened in Step 1.

Make sure the sliding screen door moves smoothly across the track. If it doesn’t you make need to adjust the height of the cartridge that encases the wheels.

Having Trouble Getting The Old Spline Out
Take a strong sharp pointed pin, , and poke around in each corner of the spline channel to find the end of the spline. Then lever the spline out of the channel, and grab it with your fingers then pull it all the way out. The video below shows a slider being repaired. Notice how the clamps are used to hold the new cloth flat across the whole frame. Keeping the material flat is half the battle.
Sometimes you wont be able to pull the spline out in one continuous length. It will keep breaking, especially if its white vinyl !. Exposure to the sun leaves plastic spline brittle and inflexible.
In those circumstances, you may have to use a utility knife to cut through the spline all around the spline channel until the spline disintegrates or comes free in small pieces.
An older slider may have aluminum or even steel spline. Aluminum spline can be pried out easily enough but it cannot be reused, so be sure you have the right diameter plastic spline on hand to replace it.
Steel spline can be reused but its probably easier to consider having new modern sliding door screen frames made to replace the old steel spline frames.
