Geometric Pool Design with Spa & Beach Entry | Backyard Oasis

Are you one of the 10.4 million Americans who own a swimming pool? If so, you may be looking for some landscaping ideas that will make your pool area more inviting and enjoyable.

Your backyard pool should be a place where you can relax and enjoy the outdoors with family and friends. If the surrounding landscape is uninspired, you might not be using and appreciating the space as much as you could.

Ready to turn your backyard pool area into a true oasis? Check out these 15 pool landscaping ideas.

Install A Swing On Your Favorite Tree

Swings are just as fun for adults as they are for children, and if you dont necessarily want a full swing set in your backyard, you can get in on the fun with a single rope swing hung from your favorite tree. All you need is some rope and a wooden seatjust make sure to hang it from a thick, sturdy branch.

Light Up Your Pool Or An Existing Water Feature

Already have a water feature? Light it up so you can enjoy it on the couch or while entertaining in the evenings. If you don’t have a water feature, you can install lights right in your pool. According to Nerd Techy, these lights have many benefits, the first being that you can use the pool at night. If you don’t like swimming underneath the moon, other advantages include ambiance and adding a dose of extra color.

The three most popular options for wireless pool lights are LED lights, halogen lights, and fiber optic lights. LEDs are the preferred option because they are energy efficient, give off more light than fiber optics, and don’t carry the risk of burning you as halogen bulbs do.

You can flush-mount your pool lights underwater, float them on the surface, or use spotlights to illuminate the pool or its water features. But you should also consider color, durability, and battery life. Solar-powered lights can be longer lasting than those with batteries, and white is probably your best choice for more formal occasions. But if you’re hanging out in the backyard with friends, you could choose single colors, alternating colors, or blinking lights. Avoid going overboard, as too much blinking could nauseate rather than soothe you and your guests.

Consider Adding Unique Water Features

Some pools have fountains. Others have waterfalls. There are even ways to incorporate falling water with fire or lights that make your pool really stand out from others you have seen. Dozens of ideas are online, but it also depends on what your pool contractor is able to build. Water features that fall to the pool and mix the water with pool chemicals are especially helpful for two reasons one, they are adding chemicals to the pool to keep it clean, and two, the constant churning of the water makes it impossible for mosquitoes and other water insects to call your pool home.

Add Lots Of Natural Greenery And Flowers

What do you think of most when you think of the word oasis? Probably a spot in a desert where green plants and palm trees just sprout up and grow around a water hole, right? You can do the same with your little pool. Landscape around the pool area with some beautiful flowers, ferns, and other greenery to make the pool area look really natural. Your landscaper or pool installer and designer will have a lot of suggestions for the kinds of plants that look nice around a pool.

Install A Raised Deck Or Patio

If you want to create an inviting and luxurious pool area, consider installing a raised deck or patio. This will provide you with a comfortable place to lounge and enjoy the view of your pool.

A raised deck or patio can also be a great place to entertain guests or host pool parties. For instance, you can add a built-in grill or bar to your deck to make it the perfect place to entertain. If you choose to go this route, you may want to hire a professional to help you with the installation.

    Tiling Pools Versus Pool Inserts

You can do a small pool one of two ways. The first involves buying a small, pre-fabricated fiberglass pool insert. They are generally pre-molded and shaped to specific shapes and sizes, which typically do not allow for a lot of customization. The second is to build a tiled pool, which offers a lot of customization but takes much longer to construct. With the latter, you can tile the walls and floor of the pool any way you want in any colors you want to create the most unique little pool possible.

You could use a pool insert and paint or tile it as well, but it still limits what you can do with it when compared to custom pool designs with tile. Be sure to explore all decorating and design options before you begin working on your oasis because once the project is half-finished, it is very costly to pull it out and start over. Sit down and plan things out thoroughly with your pool contractor, masonry contractor, and/or landscape contractor.
