To start off, Incandescent bulbs use a filament, the little curly wire we see in some bulbs. When the light is turned on, electric current is sent through that filament, which heats up and glows due to the traffic of electrons traveling through it. The issue with this is that it wears out the filament over a period of time and when the filament is completely worn out, the light is considered burnt out. Incandescent light generally doesnt last too long, rated only for about 1000-2000 hours. Halogens are significantly better overall, with a lifespan of anywhere from 6000-15000 hours of lighting, but again, they eventually burn out. LEDs are a completely different lighting source altogether.
LEDs use a process known as electroluminescence, which is when a positive and negative current is shot through atoms to create light. This process uses little energy because very little heat is produced, however, in bunches LEDs are extremely powerful. The life expectancy of an LED bulb can be up to 100000 hours.
