All Natural Stone Paving Requires Basic Maintenance In Order To Keep It Looking Good Although Some Paving May Need More Attention Than Others

The simplest way to maintain your natural stone paving is by brushing it. Sweeping regularly will help to remove any waste or debris before it has a chance to stain the paving. Where stains have occured we recommend using the Azpects EASY Mortar Stain and Calcium Remover which helps to remove cement residue deposits, scale, oxidisation and atmospheric contamination. But unlike any other acid/alkaline cleaners, it doesnt require neutralising after application.
Should lichen appear we recommend the Azpects EASY Black Spot Remover to kill the stubborn spores. To make removal even easier, use a pressure washer. But be careful the force of the water exploits any minor cracks or weaknesses. It can also blast out loose stone or slightly weak jointing.

Cleaning Natural Stone Paving
Cleaning natural stone paving can be a precarious task. Different types of natural stone have different properties, so different methods are needed to clean them. We regularly receive calls from clients who need to clean of cement residue left over from pointing. One product which will remove cement is called lithofin builders clean. This is an acid based product which works well on sandstone paving. It is important to follow the manufacturers instructions before using any acid based products. Acid should NEVER under any circumstances be used on any type of limestone paving. Using acid on limestone will completely ruin the surface colour of the stone. We have used acid before when cleaning excess grout from slate paving but it was heavily diluted.
Another thing to avoid is jetwashing natural stone. A jetwash is an effective way of cleaning stone but at the same time it can cause damage by blasting away the surface particles of the stone. Jetwashing will clean natural stone in the short term, but in the long term will make the stone more porous and difficult to keep clean. Softer sawn sandstone is particularly susceptible to jetwashing. If you do need to jetwash make sure that the jetwash is set on a low setting and do not hold it to close to the stone. A good way of cleaning stone is to use a bucket of hot soapy water and a stiff brush.

How To Clean Indian Sandstone In 8 Steps
Indian sandstone is one of the most popular paving materials. Its easy to see why. It looks sublime in both traditional and modern gardens due to its rustic finish, earthy tones, depth of character and versatility.
However, like all natural stone, its not immune to heavy footfall, spring showers and winter frosts, which means regular TLC is essential to keep it looking fresh.
Without taking the proper maintenance measures, Indian sandstone is susceptible to discolouration and decay. The severity of the deterioration depends on time, use, the type of foliage nearby and the proximity of the stone to water.
Thankfully, theres no need to stress! Cleaning Indian sandstone is straightforward and requires little effort – a simple wash-down with soapy water eradicates everyday grime while a diluted bleach formula tackles stubborn stains, moss and algae.

Removing Efflorescence From Natural Stone Patios
Efflorescence is just a salt left on the surface of the stone. This occurs when moisture has passed through the material and evaporated from the surface. It can easily be removed by applying Efflorescence Remover.
Efflorescence can run its course over a period of weeks or months, obviously you may never see it all. In the first instance it can be brushed off the surface, any difficult deposits can be removed with Efflorescence Remover. The surface can be treated periodically with this product if the salting only appears occasionally.
Please note on newly laid patios, efflorescence can continually appear over the first few months, then disappear and never return.
Over time if there are obvious marks & crusts developing use Efflorescence Remover. Crusts will usually only form when there has been a great deal of moisture transfer. If this is the case, you may need to scape any obvious deposits away and then treat with the remover.
*Only use Efflorescence Remover on acid resistant surfaces. Such as sandstones and slate. Do not apply to limestones, travertine, and concrete etc. Always test in an inconspicuous place before using this product.

Tips To Keep Your Patio Clean Longer
For those who followed the instructions, scrubbed hard, and used the solution a few times without much luck, know that sometimes tougher measures are called for. A product like Wet & Forget should do the job. While the label says it is bleach-free, phosphate-free, non-acidic, and safe near plants and on all outdoor surfaces , do take caution when using this product. Wear rubber gloves and avoid unnecessary dripping into your garden or grass.
Follow the directions on the container of the cleaning product, making sure that the previous cleaning solvents have been thoroughly rinsed off with a strong blast from the hose. While the product used may claim that scrubbing isn’t necessary, it will probably be necessary to have those sleeves rolled up continue to scrub the moldy/mossy area until it’s free of all the green stuff.
Try revisiting the area in a week or two to keep on top of the mold and mildew. Persistence will pay offif you regularly do a light cleaning of the space, more thorough cleanings every few months won’t be necessary.
Does Wd 40 Remove Oil Stains From Concrete
WD 40 is a multi-purpose solvent that has a variety of uses. Since it is capable of removing grease, you can use it on driveways that have unappealing oil stains. Although WD 40 is a chemical, it will not damage the surface of the driveway. Additionally, you need to use a scrub brush along with other items.
- Absorb as much oil as possible using paper towels. Discard the paper towels properly.
- Spray WD 40 on the stained area. Make sure that the stain is completely covered. Let it sit for up to 5 minutes and wipe with an old towel or rag.
- For lingering traces of the stain, pour a grease-fighting dish soap. Pour a small amount of hot water over the dish soap and scrub with a wire brush.
- Flush or rinse the site with hot boiling water.
- Repeat the process if needed.

Concrete PatiosHose down your concrete patio with a garden hose and a spray nozzle that provides plenty of water pressure. For tough stains, you can use a natural or synthetic bristle scrub brush, plus a degreaser to remove oily spots near the grill. We dont recommend using a wire brush because it can rust, leave rust stains on your patio, and scratch the surface of your concrete patio.
