Once you have cleaned the bacteria from the area, now is the time to use an enzyme cleaner. Enzyme cleaners break down the ammonia and proteins in the urea that has been left behind and will continue to smell.
Even if humans can no longer smell it, your cat can and may end up marking the same spot all over again.
To treat the area with an enzyme cleaner, soak the area and work it in with a mop, , or sponge. Dont dry the area!
Cover the area with plastic to allow the area to remain wet so the enzyme cleaner has more time to soak into the concrete. Allow the area to dry on its own.

How To Get Urine Smell Out Of Porous Cement
I’m usually at the Decor Forum here at GW but this has nothing to do with decor —– *holds nose*.
We’ve been redoing our back yard and making a new area just for relaxing.Problem is the area used to be our dog’s potty area.
Although she’s an indoor dog exclusively, when we are outdoors and she wants to be with us out there we gave Zayda a brand new potty area out back with a large area of grass, some textured cement , a plot of dirt because she likes a wet dirt mound to lie in when it’s hot and a mister along the brick wall, mainly to keep the dust down but for Zayda’s comfort too on hot days like today.
Sounds good, right? She loves her new area and barely ventures over to our area now.
Problem: Where we’ve set up our new area to relax, we keep getting the strong odor of dried urine…..it’s permeated the cement.I’ve sprayed the concrete floor of the area with diluted bleach, Fabreez, Mr. Clean and numerous other cleaning/disinfecting/odor minimizing solutions to no avail.
Years ago I worked with Parrots of all types in a commercial setting and we used Roccal to clean and deodorize….bought it by the case. I loved the stuff!
I decided to try and see if it was still available/still being made and Yikes! the price has gone way up!
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Why Is Dog Or Cat Urine On Concrete So Smelly
Unsealed concrete floors wont repel pet odors as much as you might think.
Concrete is porous, meaning it can soak up offending liquid especially when its left without being cleaned.
Youve probably noticed the floors of pet boarding facilities and daycares are often made up of smooth concrete.
So why use it if it doesnt repel dog or cat pee?
Anyone with a business that involves dogs has more than likely done their research, and understand that a sealed concrete floor is actually a fantastic option.
Dogs and cats cant chew this type of flooring, dig it up, or scratch it.
They dont offer a refuge for pesky fleas or mites that pets often carry.
A sealed floor is also much easier to clean off any organic stains.
However, the lower surfaces in your home might not be sealed , which is why urine accidents can become a problem.
Sealing it is the key to protecting it, and Ill delve a little more into that option later.
For now, Ill focus on cleaning up stains that have already happened.
Sealed or not, all accidents should be cleaned.
On unsealed concreate areas the cleaning process can be a little more intensive.
However, there are still ways to restore the floor and banish smell due to the ammonia and uric acid.
So whether your dog had an accident in the garage, missed the lawn and peed on the sidewalk, or the culprit is a cat marking their territory you have a couple of good options that are both natural and safe:

What Neutralizes The Smell Of Dog Urine
One of the biggest problems with cleaning pet urine off of a patio is the fact that concrete is porous.
If an animal decides to wee all over your outdoor space, the urine is going to creep into every nook and cranny it can find in the concrete/pavers. So what should you do?
First, cover the affected area with baking soda. Seriously, use a lot. You dont want to have to do it twice.
Let the baking soda sit on the patio for about an hour so it can really absorb the odor.
Next, slowly pour or spray white vinegar over the baking soda. Youll notice that the mixture will start fizzing and bubbling. This is a good thing! The vinegar is neutralizing the ammonia in the animal urine and also reacting with the baking soda to pull the rest of it out of the porous concrete.
Let the chemistry do its work and after the bubbling has stopped, thoroughly rinse the target area with pure water.
