We recommend a professional grade sealer for your interlocking pavers. There are two main types of sealer to choose from water based, and solvent based. Water based sealers are penetrating sealers that will penetrate the porous areas of the paver providing protection through the surface of the paver. Solvent based sealers are film forming which create an acrylic based barrier over the surface of your pavers preventing stains from penetrating through. It is important to use the correct type of sealer for the correct stone:

What Type Of Sealer Should I Use To Seal My Paver Patio
This is a good question. In most cases, we recommend that pavers be sealed using a water based joint stabilizing sealer. The water based sealers wont build up on the surface like solvent based sealers do. Water based sealers wont show wear/traffic patterns like solvent based sealers do. Water based sealers are much easier to apply than solvent based sealers and require much less clean up during installation.
The joint stabilizing part of the water based sealer is recommended for most pavers. However, if the joint between the pavers measures more than 1/4 we dont recommend using a joint stabilizing sealer. You can still use a water based paver sealer, just make sure it doesnt have the joint stabilizer. How Much Does It Cost To Clean And Seal Pavers What Kind Of Cleaning
That is an important question.
The first thing to notice is that pavers work alongside sand to form an interlocking system. That means the sand is just as important as the pavers in a paver installation.
This interlocking system is what allows pavers to be so resilient. They can withstand heavy loads distributing the weight amongst themselves, thanks to the malleable system formed by the sand.
Talking about cleaning pavers without talking about re-sanding your pavers afterward is impossible. Re-sand is an integral part of the deep cleaning of pavers.
So you have two scenarios. Either your paver installation is still intact and you just need to clean surface-level stains and dirt, or you have weeds and mildew growing between the joints of your pavers.
If youre in the first scenario, you have nothing to worry about. A regular garden hose and a broom, in combination with a good cleaning product, can get the job done.
But if your installation is compromised by biological life, youll need to perform a deep cleaning and re-sanding afterward.

Is There A Prep Process Before Applying Paver Sealant
Even new pavers should be cleaned with Techniseal® Paver Prep prior to sealing. Not only will it clean the pavers, but it will open the pores on the surface to allow better penetration of the sealant. Older pavers will also benefit, as Paver Prep will remove any efflorescence that has accumulated. Key Steps On How To Seal Pavers
1) Pavers, bricks or concrete must be clean. Use appropriate cleaners for removing oil, efflorescence mold and mildew. Dont apply sealant over efflorescence. This will only seal the efflorescence to the surface of the paver. If your pavers have already been sealed over and you see efflorescence, the sealant will have to be stripped. Remember, efflorescence can appear after sealing, as it rises up from within the pavers.
2) Sweep dry, properly graded sand into joints and fill to required level slightly below the top of the pavers . Completely remove all remaining sand from the top of the pavers A leaf blower is recommended for this and to remove any dust and debris.
3) After the sand has been applied into the paver joints and the application area blown clean, apply one coat of paver sealer to saturation paying particular attention to getting as much sealer into the joints and down into the sand as possible. Concentrate spraying sealer over the joint. One liberal coat will seal, protect and lock down your interlocking concrete paving stones. Excess sealer on the surface must be back brushed or back rolled into the joints. A second coat should be applied to give additional protection and increase gloss.
4)Do not apply any sealers during inclement weather or in direct sunlight when temperature exceeds 90°F.

Spray Application Vs Roller To Seal Pavers
While roller applying a sealer is easier than spraying, roller application does not work as well on pavers compared to something concrete.
The biggest drawback when rolling sealer on brick pavers is that the roller can pick up the joint sand and roll it over the top of the brick paver surface.
This is especially true if the joints are wide. Furthermore, the amount of sealer that soaks into the sand joints is difficult to control when rolling.
Apply a flood coat to the paver surface including the joints. This method will apply the sealer very generously while allowing the sealer to soak into the sand joints as well.
As long as you apply the paver sealer on a windless day, the coverage can be generous and effortless.
If you really cant get a pump up garden sprayer, opt for a sponge-type roller to apply the sealer. A nap roller is more likely to grab and trap your joint sand.
