How To Paint A Porch Floor With Concrete Paint
One project that Ive thought about doing for years is updating my porch floor with concrete paint. This year I moved it up on the priority list and finally got it done. It has made such a tremendous difference that I cant believe I didnt do this sooner!
This is how it looked before. I had removed the furniture and power washed it about a week or two before I took this photo. You can hardly tell it was even power washed because the concrete was badly stained.

One reason I waited so long to do this is that I wanted to do a good amount of research before choosing a concrete paint. Using something that would hold up to the elements and daily foot traffic was most important. I had used Behr granite grip on a small patch of concrete in my backyard and that has held up well for over a year. However, that is not the look I wanted for the front so I had to find something else.
My plan was to paint this to look like wood planks, much in the same way I did the painted shiplap wall in my bedroom. One day on Instagram I saw another bloggers video showing how well her painted concrete porch floor had held up after two years. After contacting her, I was confident with choosing the same paint she used. Its called Olympic Maximum and its actually a stain that comes in colors much like paint.

How To Stain Concrete To Look Like Wood
Concrete is a durable, easy-to-clean material for floors. Historically, concrete was left for high traffic areas or floor sections like basements, patios and walkways where fashionable decor was not top priority.
In recent years, however, concrete has found new life with stains and sealers that give it the look of other surfaces including wood. Concrete has become a popular choice in home areas such as kitchens, dining rooms and entryways.
How To Paint A Concrete Patio Stains & Cracks
Some of our problems:
- lots of staining from spills
- water splash staining from rain and snow
- plant debris staining it just blows onto the patio constantly!
This big stain pictured below, in particular, even after working with it and the pressure washer, it just wouldnt get off!
The cracks were already filled with silicone, which the paint cant stick to. So we had to clean that out, but because of a lot of settling over the years the pieces had lifted the to slightly different levels, so we chose to grind them down. Justin used a handheld plugin grinder and a diamond bit grinder blade in about a 4 inch diameter.
Poor Guy! This work was pretty back breaking for sure and DUSTY!!
All ground down the cracks now looked like this:

Concrete Countertops With A Wood Plank Finish
This outdoor kitchen at a Texas ranch was full of rustic details. Robert Salinas, a contractor who had done other work on the property, suggested making wood-grain concrete countertops. The countertops were precast in molds lined with HardiePlank siding panels. The concrete was integrally colored with an ivory pigment and antiqued with an espresso stain to mimic natural cedar. Why Resurfacing Is Better Than Installing Pavers Over Your Concrete Surface
Pavers can easily become uneven, causing tripping hazards and spots for water to puddle and weeds to grow through. Also, hiring a professional to lay pavers is expensive.
If you like the look of pavers, we can create that look. We can mimic the look of bricks, wood, flagstone, slate, brick, granite, and more. We can also seal the surface for protection from stains and UV damage.

How To Paint Concrete Floors To Look Like Wood
Wood-look flooring has become extremely popular. But the cost of installing it can be more than most people are willing to pay.
Suppose you want the look of wood without spending a small fortune. Then, you can change the appearance of plain old concrete or tile floors. Anyone can paint their floor to look like wood with just a little bit of know-how and a lot of patience.
First Step
You need special prep before beginning to paint your concrete floors to look like wood. Its time to remove any existing wax or dirt. It helps the paint to adhere well to the surface. Fix all the chipped, scratched, or uneven areas to apply the topcoat properly. Also, the high or low spots will be invisible after the paint is dry.
Second Step
Next, youll need to clean your entire floor thoroughly. You can use a commercial cleaner and follow that with a solution of TSP. You may find it in most renovation shops.
Another method of cleaning the concrete floor is available. Some experts suggest using etching products on the surface. You can take a sprayer to spray the item and a stiff bristle brush to spread the etch well.
After applying the cleaner or etch, you can wash the area with clean water. Alternatively, you use a pressure washer to clean all the junk.
Third Step
This step is not a mandatory one if your surface looks even and clean. If not so, you can squeeze the project area.

Concrete Flooring Is Economical
Compared to the average wood flooring cost, concrete can save you a lot of money. For example, consider the cost to replace carpet with hardwood. Between removing the old finished flooring, purchasing the new materials, and paying installers , you may be looking at a higher price tag and more effort than expected. You may wonder why you even considered carpet vs. hardwood in the first place.
But as we mentioned, concrete is often already installed in your homeas your subfloor! If buying hardwood flooring means spending a bit too much cash, consider concrete flooring that looks like wood as a more affordable alternative.
Despite the fact that engineered wood products are usually cheaper than solid hardwood, concrete is often comparable in price to the best engineered wood flooring and best types of vinyl flooring around. Its water resistance also means it is also likely to last longer than natural wood alternatives, from the cork flooring Lowes offers, to even the best bamboo flooring.
