How To Get Pvc Glue Off Of Concrete
PVC pipe is an essential part of any outdoor water feature, including pools, fountains and sprinkler systems. To achieve a tight seal, you must apply PVC glue to the connecting ends of the pipe and the PVC fitting. This chemical solvent softens or melts the outer coating of PVC, which hardens and fuses the pipe to the fitting. How Do I Remove Thin Layer Of Carpet Glue From Concrete
The folks who owned this house before us were the cheapest people around. They glued carpet to our concrete floor with a very thin layer of glue. Now, I’m having a terrible time scraping it off. I tried using some adhesive remover we got from Lowe’s, but it doesn’t really seem to be having any effect other than making it wet 🙁
My local hardware stores include: Locke & Lowe’s. There’s also a local store that rents tools, but I’m not sure the extent of their selection, I was able to rent an auger there once for digging fence poles, just as an example.
Any suggestions on solvents? Tools?

- 1Some of these glues can be softened with a wallpaper steamer and scraped off with a lot less mess than a concrete grinder and quicker than you think.
Tool rental places probably rent concrete grinders for big jobs like refinishing concrete floors and then you can use a sander that get get into corners.

If you have ever tried to remove that yellow carpet glue from under awall-to-wall carpet or rug that you have removed from your floor, youknow exactly what I’m talking about. You know how difficult it is. No chemical would remove it….no machine would removeit , but hotwater did the trick! I then, used the $17.00 heavy-duty hand bladescrapers that I bought at Lowe’s .
Different Methods Of Removing Black Glue From Concrete
FLOOR SCRAPER:
We use floor razor scrapers to remove the tiles, carpet, and the black glue on the concrete. The handle is long enough so you get good leverage to scrape with.
Make sure you get plenty of extra razor blades, they get dull fairly quickly.
We always start with these first when we remove adhesives from concrete.
Scrape off as much as you can. It’s hit or miss with these. Sometimes you can remove most of the glue this way and sometimes not much at all.
Once you get a small area scraped clean, keep scraping from the cleaner spot into the glue.
This method helps you get the razor blade under the glue and lift it off the concrete.
Again, if you’re unsure how old the black mastic is, make sure it’s wet when you scrape it.
HOT WATER:
After you’ve scraped as much off as you can, you can try hot, boiling water to soften the glue.
Pour the hot water on the floor and let it sit for a couple minutes. When the adhesive becomes soft, scrape it again to remove what’s left.
Spread some kitty litter on the floor to help soak up the black liquid glue. Then you can pick it up with a broom and dust pan to dispose of it.
