What I Was Looking For In A Pergola
When I first decided I wanted a pergola for my back deck, like most of you, I scoured all the reviews for all kinds of pergolas. We were finally painting our back deck, but the sun can be pretty brutal back there sometimes. I was looking for some kind of sun shade to add to my deck ideasandother backyard decorating inspiration, and a pergola was always on my wish list.
Besides how pretty it would look, I had a few things that were on my list:
1| 5 crossbars, not just one center bar
2| Ease of Assembly
3| Simple Instructions
4| Durability
While Purple Leaf wasnt the cheapest one , it checked off all the boxes. And I need to say upfront it did not disappoint.
I want to share my experience in detail because I know how helpful these reviews are for me!
Assembly Of The Pergola
I want to say, off the bat, that while I wouldnt call this an easy assemble its a little tedious and there are lots of screws you need to tighten with allen keys but it is a clear and smooth assembly. What I mean is that the directions were easy to understand not confusing and they flowed smoothly. AND, everything fit together as it should.
Ive read reviews of other products where the holes didnt line up or the screws didnt fit. There was nothing like that in putting together this pergola. There were a few times when the hole alignment wasnt perfect, but with a little muscle, you can get the screw in the holes. And that was only a few times, not the majority.
So while it does take time, it doesnt waste your time.

Has a design flawThe cover as seen in picture , that the sliding canvas top goes under when not in use has a design flaw. When it rains the water sits on top the cover, about 2 gallons worth, and you have to get a broom and push up on it from the bottom to drain all the water off! I came up with a temporary fix by placing this vinyl siding trim down the middle to create an arch so maybe the water will drain off, sort of like the roof on your house is sloped. They should have included a tall bar that you put across there to create that arch. How could the manufacturer have not thought that rain water would gather up there and cause the fabric to sag? Also, there is no replacement parts listed anywhere on their website if someday your top fabric cover wears out, or the canopy sliding cover needs replacing, or even the wheel roller hooks that hold the sliding canopy get brittle from the sun and break. Because of everything i have listed here i dont recommend you purchase this.

Looks greatThis pergola looks handsome and really improves my fire pit areaIt definitely takes 2-3 people to build, but we got it installed in 3 hours with 3 guys. Just be patient as the instructions can be a little light on details.It just looks fantastic and the overall value are off the chart.
