How To Build A Custom Cabinet For Your Gas Fire Pit Table
Basically, building a gas fire table is as simple as building a box. If you can handle that level of construction, you are most of the way there. Certainly, there are some designs that are more complicated and involved than others, but the base of a cabinet is essentially a box.
Whether you decide to style it as a coffee table, accent table or bar table, the main purpose is to house the tank hide the guts of the burner and provide support for your tabletop.
Building a square or rectangular cabinet base is a fairly straightforward project for anyone with a few construction skills and some basic tools.
If this will be your first woodworking project, be prepared to invest in a few power tools such as a drill, table or circular saw and perhaps a nail gun. More refined treatments might require additional tools such as a miter saw.
Buying tools will definitely increase the cost of this project, but if you plan on being a DIYer, you will no doubt use them again and again in the future. Plus, the savings youll get from building the table yourself will help offset these costs.
Screed Off The Excess Concrete
Slide a 2×4 across the surface to scrape off the excess concrete. Wiggle it back and forth as you go, but try not to shake the whole form too much. That could also cause the remesh wire to sink and create shadow lines. Let the concrete harden a bit before you smooth it out with a trowel or taping knife. It doesnt have to be perfectly smooth because nobody will ever see it.

Diy Outdoor Fire Table
Ive been on the hunt for a fire table for our outdoor lounge area. Of course, when I finally found the one, I also found out it costs $3,899! This Plateau Rectangular Outdoor Fire Table from Crate & Barrel is exactly what I have been searching for and it is perfect in every way, except for the price. After much planning, I found a way to make my own version of it for around $500. Heres everything you need to know so you can build one too.
BUILDING THE FRAMEWORK
The best way to get started is to determine the size that you want your fire table to be. You can adjust the size to fit your needs, but I am going to make the overall size of my fire table 52 in length by 28 wide by 18 high.
For the framework, we need to subtract 1 from those measurements to account for the ½ thick wonderboard that will cover the outside. So, the actual outside dimensions for the framework will be 51 x 27 x 17.5.
Ive decided to construct my framework out of metal 2x4s. It seems like the best option for this type of project. They will be lighter than wood, they will withstand the outdoor elements, and overall it just seems more appropriate since they are non-combustible/fire resistant. With that being said, I dont see any reason you couldnt construct the framework out of pressure-treated lumber as well.
A couple of things I found helpful use c-clamps to hold the metal 2x4s in place when adding screws. A magnetic level is also helpful to make sure everything stays level and square.

What I Used:
9 x 13 High Heat Baking Pan
Cut List:
The Steps:
1. First, I cut my melamine into the sizes I needed for my table top mold. I made the bottom piece 24 wide and 36 long and then cut 2 tall strips to fit the edges.
2. Next, I assembled my mold with wood screws.
3. I then nailed 1 ¼ tall melamine strips in the middle of the mold to frame out my opening for the pan to go later (its most helpful to have your pan on hand to measure this. You want to make sure it will fit perfectly before pouring.
Remember, I didnt want the pan to fit inside of this box. I wanted the box to be the exact size of your pan because this will form the opening in the concrete to the drop the pan into later.
4. Next, I vacuumed my mold and sealed all of the edges with silicone caulking. I wiped away any excess before letting it dry.
7. While the concrete dried, I began to build the base. I started by assembling the legs. I used 2 x 4 boards for each leg and attached them with wood glue and decking screws.

Modern Diy Concrete Fire Pit

Building A Table: Finish Up
Take out the form screws, and remove the form walls with a hammer and a pry bar or sturdy scraper. Have a strong buddy help you flip the top upside down. Seal the tabletop with an exterior-grade concrete sealer.
Install the control panel , and set your table base exactly where you want it before setting the top into place. Apply the leftover black and high-temp silicone to the top edge of the table. The top is heavy enough that it shouldnt budge with normal use, but the silicone will create a stronger bond in case your burly, intoxicated brother-in-law falls down on it.
Insert the burner and make the gas line connections according to the manufacturers directions. Fill the burner with the recommended amount of rocks. Too few rocks and the pan will overheat too many rocks and the flame will sit too high and be blown out by the wind.
All thats left is to invite your friends and family for a relaxing conversation around the fire.

Prep your gel fuel by following the directions on the label. Remove lids and place 1-2 cans in the bottom of your fire pit. If your planter is deep, like ours, you may need to prop up the cans with small rocks and metal pails.

How To Make A Diy Tabletop Fire Bowl In Minutes
You may be thinkingI like this, but I dont have a bowl like this or want to make one. That is the beauty of creating a tabletop bowl like this.
All you need to make a tabletop fire bowl yourself in your decorating style is 3 items:
I used a TIKI style table torch to use in my bowl and lava rocks. The rocks are just decorative as the flame is contained in the table torch that is filled with citronella oil, and has a thick cotton wick.
You can purchase similar table torches like this at Walmart, Amazon and Target.
Place Fire Glass In The Fire Pan Insert And Light It
Once all of your connections have been made and leak tested, its time to insert the fire table pan into the concrete penetration. Next, I recommend that you place some fire glass in the fire pan to cover up the burner .
Now, open the propane valve, adjust the flame size with the key valve, and light it up!

Does the need to sit around a fire outside go back to our days as cave-dwellers? Probably, but we have way better stuff to roast over the fire now, and beer to drink with it. Just like our pre-historic ancestors , you can make your own DIY backyard fire ring with these tutorials on how to build a DIY fire pit.
If youve ever tried to make smores in the microwave, I dont have to tell you that sometimes theres no substitute for real fire. For safety reasons, a lot of areas require that fires be contained in structures , so if you want regular access to fresh smores, you might need a backyard fire pit. You can buy a pre-made one, or you can use these many tutorials for how to build a fire pit, and save yourself some serious cash.
Fire Tables Provide Aesthetics And Heat
Before you begin building, its important to consider how youll be using your fire table most often. Normally, youll want to give yourself at least 8-10 inches of ledge space for drinks or small plates. If youll be adding a glass wind guard, this space will be reduced further. In this case, youll likely want to extend your ledges out to approximately 10- 12 inches to maintain your 8- 10 inch ledge spacing.
With ledge spacing in mind, you should next consider how large you want your center opening to be. For more heat, youll want to have a larger center opening in order to accommodate a larger burner. In most cases, the larger the burner, the larger the BTU output. This, in turn, means more heat. Round and square shapes are best for this, but keep in mind your gas supply. If you go too large, you may come up short on fuel supply, resulting in an inadequate flame and poor performance.
If aesthetics are your primary concern rather than heat, consider going with a more contemporary design. This can often be achieved by using a single linear burner with a center line of fire. This often looks best in a large rectangular fire pit. While you will sacrifice some of the heat output, you can give yourself more freedom to create an impressive appearance.
