Tips For Choosing The Right Gazebo Fan
With many styles of outdoor ceiling fans out there, it is easy to buy something that is not worth your money. Thus, you need to learn how to choose the right fan for your gazebo. Thankfully, there are key factors that you need to consider before buying an outdoor fan.
First, look at the fans rating. When a fan has a damp rating, it means it can safely operate outdoors as long as the area does not have direct exposure to rain. Thus, check the location of your gazebo and see if it offers enough coverage against rain.
If rain does not come inside the gazebo, then you should be good with a fan that comes with a damp rating.
Another key factor is the motor of the fan. Check if it uses an AC or DC motor. AC motors work by drawing a lot of electricity.
On the flip side, a fan with a DC motor requires 75% less electricity. This is because of the special electronics inside the motor. The electronics convert normal AC power into DC or direct current.
Also, you want to consider the lighting in and around the gazebo. This is important especially if people wish to enjoy the night breeze in the gazebo.
If your gazebo has poor lighting, it may be wise to invest in a ceiling fan with a built-in lighting fixture.
Last but not least, consider how the fan looks. Pick a design that doesnt look too gaudy in your gazebo.
Outdoor Fans For Pergolas Vs Gazebos
Both gazebos and pergolas are outdoor structures that provide shade and extend the outdoor living space of a home. Whats the difference? Gazebos have a closed roof, where pergolas have a more open roof with beams and rafters. When shopping for a fan for your gazebo or pergola, look for designs with the appropriate weather rating, like our durably crafted WeatherMax® fans. These fans are designed and engineered to make sure your fan blades dont droop and the electrical elements are protected from moisture.
Here’s a basic overview of the differences between gazebo fans and pergola fans:
Highlight The Best Features
Every gazebo has its unique features. The easiest way to showcase these features is to highlight them with string lights.
The picture above shows how a row of lights at the very top brings focus to the beautiful metal dome and naturally cascading plants.
This design method is worth giving a try because it will help you put a spotlight on the best parts of your gazebo.

We Installed And Additional Fan And Light
Heres a backyard story from Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island.
We assembled a 12 x 14 pavilion on an octagonal concrete slab in August 2019.
To ensure the structural integrity of the mounting process I distributed the load across three rafter ties using a 1 x 8 plank and through bolts that came with the pavilion and steel angle iron as well as an additional L bracket on the centre vertical post.
It all looks like it was designed from the factory and it functions perfectly. We are very pleased with the project as a whole and we spend alot of time outside all year as a result.

Installing A Pergola Or Gazebo Fan
Installing an outdoor fan to a pergola or gazebo can be fairly simple and definitely worth your while. While portable fans may provide some relief, hanging a gazebo fan provides a more durable, powerful source of airflow. Unlike a portable fan thats battery-operated or plugs into an outlet, the versatile features of a gazebo or pergola fan are made to withstand damp or wet conditions, they just require proper installation. If you’re not comfortable working with electricity or you need to install a junction box where one doesnt already exist, contact a certified electrician for a professional installation.
Make the most out of every relaxing day spent outdoors in a gazebo or pergola with a ceiling fan from Hunter. There are styles that accentuate the design scheme or architecture of your outside space. Narrow down your choices by thinking about your existing décor, patterns, or color schemes. Then, consider the size of your space to determine whether you’ll benefit from installing one overhead ceiling fan or multiple fans throughout the area for maximum comfort.

A Large Chandelier For A Large Gazebo
Keep in mind the size of your gazebo when picking the right lighting fixture. A standard pendant light, in this case, would not be sufficient.
Choose a large crystal chandelier that will look proportionate to its surroundings. Make sure the chandelier is front and center to achieve the wow factor you are looking for in your backyard.
I have included this example to remind you that size can either make or break your home design.
Install The Electrical Box
After completing the wiring, you are now ready to install the electrical box. The methods of installing the electrical box differ depending on the structure and design of your gazebo.
If it features exposed beams, then you are quite lucky. You can directly mount the electrical box against the joists.
If not, then you need to install a support brace. You will fit this brace inside a hole on the part of the ceiling that you marked earlier. If you need to stretch it a bit, do so before mounting it to your gazebos rafters.
Make sure to read the instructions first before connecting the electrical box to your brace. The brace will then play a crucial role in securing your fan in place.
Also, you want to install the blades of the fan first before hooking the latter onto the brace.
