Whatever you do, I recommend having the sound of water splashing somewhere in there. I have friends that added an aquarium with tropical fish in their backyard tiki bar and I thought that was a good idea.

Cutting Your Reed Roll To Length

The reed roll will be used as both the front panelling of the bar and the roof lining. Once cut, you will end up with two sections: the longer one will be the bar panelling and the shorter one will be the liner.

The reed roll can be a bit unruly, so to ensure an even cut, lay the roll down on the ground and push one end up against a wall or any hard vertical surface. This will act like a fence on a bandsaw.

Measure 40 3/4″ out from the wall and mark it with a piece of masking tape.

Find the edge of the roll and line it up with the marking tape.

Carefully cut along the entire length of the roll, being sure to keep it pushed up against the wall as you go.

Not that long ago, in a neighborhood not that far awayTatooiniki started with an impulsive purchase of a large, beach-themed, inlaid-wood bar topsalvaged from a South Jersey mansionin 2014, shortly after we moved to the Jersey burbs from Brooklyn with our family.

We had nowhere to install it at that point, so it sat in a corner of our garage draped in some moving blankets. A couple of years later, once we had done some work to make our formerly-leaky basement watertight, we began the process of designing a bar around our bar top. Peter began building in earnest in 2018. The bar made its debut Labor Day weekend 2018 and has hosted monthly parties ever since, even as its decor and furnishings are constantly evolving.

Buck Burgers On Wednesdays And Sandbox Fun Every Night

Patrons looking for the most laid-back night of the week will find it on Sundays when people who have been up north for the weekend come back home and stop in for dinner and drinks. Vander Bloomen also has noticed an uptick in business this year from people not making the drive up north because of high gas prices.

Their bar tabs probably wouldve filled their gas tank up, but Im not going to argue, he said.

He often has light live music on Sunday afternoons, and you can bet there will be kids in the sandbox. Vander Bloomen had originally brought the sand in to make another little area with a fire pit and Adirondack chairs when he noticed kids had started playing in it.

So I gave up on that and I just started throwing toys in there. Normally when people are cleaning out their garage, random toys will end up here, he said. Every night of the week youll have kids playing in that sandbox.

It was important to Vander Bloomen that customers feel comfortable bringing their kids before 9 p.m any night of the week . His own 6-month-old and his nieces and nephews are often there. The bar pays closer attention to the kind of music it plays before 9 p.m., and if a patron is swearing, staff will ask them to be mindful.

No matter the night, its a friendly place and an easy one for people who are alone to come and hang out, Vander Bloomen said.

He figures hes responsible for at least five or six marriages, including his own. He met his wife there after hiring her.
