Pay Attention To Detail
As this front yard from an Australian renovating company called Kyal & Kara proves, the devil lies in the details. Add Striking Containers To A Front Porch Garden
Combine gravel and large planters for a low-maintenance front yard
Garden gravel ideas can be a smart choice if you prefer the idea of a low maintenance front yard. The landscaping of this house in Tacoma, Washington, designed by Gardendigs , includes rainbow rock with inset rectangular concrete pavers.
Architectural tall black planters provide a nice contrast to the white porch and are filled with shade-loving Mahonia and the evergreen Japanese aralia .
Broad-leafed plants like the aralia paired with architectural planters help to increase their visual impact from the curb or street. Anything smaller or more delicate would get lost.
It’s important to pay attention to the location of your container gardening ideas and work out whether they are more suited to shade, sun, or a combination of both. For curb appeal, use the same or similar planters to avoid a mismatched look. Continuity is also a good rule for the plants that go in the containers.

Focus On Planting Rich Warm Hues
‘A lush tropical foliage garden design is a great contrast to a modern style architecture,’ says landscape designer Matthew Giampietro. ‘We were asked to create a modern tropical landscape design in the front yard of this newly renovated home in South Florida. There was an existing mature ficus tree that provided shade to a large part of the front yard and the new home renovation was a modern style, white in color. Our goal was to create a front yard garden that can also be used for outdoor seating as well as recreation for the children. We created a modern layout for the walkways leading to the front entrance and used lush tropical plantings help define and enclose spaces in the front yard. Shade-loving plants were needed and, fortunately, there are many tropical varieties to choose from. Foliage plants come in a range of colors, shapes and sizes while unique shade-loving flowers, like red ginger, the heliconia flower or bromeliads offer a unique structure and a variety of colors.’

Adding in broken low walls interspersed with planting, plus contrasting hard materials and the result is truly special. Principal at Ginkgo Leaf Studio , James M. Drzewiecki, explains, ‘This modern interpretation of a craftsman-styled home in Milwaukee was the inspiration for the eclectic and contemporary landscape design. Low garden walls which match the stone veneer on the home were incorporated for a sense of enclosure and add a bold architectural element to define the front yard from the street. At the end of the front walk we added a bluestone foyer that matches the stone on the homes front porch and creates a more welcoming entry point from the drive. The area to the left of the front walk acts as a rain garden for run off from the homes roof and provides a happy home for a group of river birch. A restrained palette of perennials and ornamental grasses combined with native shrub and tree species adds refinement and seclusion to the balance of the property.’

Landscaping Ideas With New Front Porch
We added a new porch to the front of our house and I was hoping to do the landscaping myself. I can do the work, but have no talent with landscape design, so I was looking for some ideas. There will be a white railing installed this week.
Any help would be appreciated.

I suggest you not fill in front of the porch with garden but bring the lawn up to it, allowing small beds for seasonal color at the posts and a small bed near the garage. At the left side, it looks like you could bring a bed forward, connecting it with the lot line, and include a small tree in it. Groundcover could go below.
The front of the house would look MUCH better if the grade were level and flush with the stoop. However, this causes an issue near the garage because it was not planned for this. The bed at the garage could be sunken and this portion concealed with planting. The turf would need a curb at the front of the bed in order to retain its edge
