Tropical Parlor Outdoor Pergola Set

How to Build a Pergola Attached to Your House | Mitre 10 Easy As DIY

The dark wood columns of this pergola suggest the dark wood entrance to a Victorian parlor. The blue and white tile flooring picks up the parlor idea and carries it into the outdoor living space, but the wicker furniture continues the garden feel. The blue and white pillows complete the setting, echoing the tiles colors without repeating the pattern.

Automated Screens For Wind And Rain Protection

The R-Blade bioclimatic louvered roof installed at the outdoor terrace comes with outdoor screens, a rain sensor that prompts the pergola to close automatically when it detects rain. Moreover, the outdoor bar pergola has a wind sensor for automatic opening whenever it detects a strong wind force.

While offering the perfect ambiance to this convivial sports bar, it shelters the customers from winds during watch parties and gatherings.

Moreover, our modern louvered roof system is complemented by Azencos well-engineered invisible gutter system to drain the rainwater immediately, ensuring that the space under the pergola remains dry.

Island Thatching Pergola Cover

If you dream of being somewhere like Tahiti or Polynesia, sitting under this pergola will make you think that youre already there. The arched roof of the pergola is covered with thatch. The open wicker furniture adds to the island feel, but to further the theme, add tropical plants like potted palms, bird of paradise, orchids, or plumeria.

How High Should A Pergola Be Over A Hot Tub

Heres my take on it. You need to be able to stand beneath it while in the tub. If its an in-ground tub, you will want the height of the pergola to be a minimum of 7.6 feet. However, when the tub is above-ground, you will need to know its inside height plus your height plus another two feet, to make it safe for tall people. Also, take into account any overhead features you want to include as part of the roof such as a fan or a chandelier. A standard hot tub pergola height range is 8 feet to 11 feet. I suggest you call your local permit issuing department, to get a more specific dimension.

What Designs Did I Reject

Timber Frame Style Pavilion Gazebo for Backyard or Patio – post and beam

I rejected a number of potential designs, one of which was doing a backyard bar shed, kinda like these:

one, two, three

They just never looked quite as high quality as I wanted, and in addition to that, our space was just so small that leaving it open and airy made the most sense. Goodbye, backyard bar shed passing fancy.

I would have LOVED to have the space to do my Big Kahuna design, which was a separate guest house as well as a full bathroom, with the outdoor bar to the side, but I would have needed quite a bit more width and depth in this backyard corner for that!

What Are Pergola Kits

A pergola is a great way to dress up your outdoor space and provide shade on a sun-washed patio or deck. Many homeowners opt to build a pergola from a kit rather than from scratch.

A pergola kit includes all the precut, notched and drilled pieces of wood, vinyl or other material, plus the required hardware you need to assemble and anchor your pergola. Some kits provide prestained wood, while others require the extra step of treating and staining the wood before assembly.

Though instructions for assembly are included, quality can vary. Check for reviews that flag hard-to-follow or confusing instructions before purchase. If you get stuck, there are helpful tutorials and videos online with tips and instructions. Though most are focused on DIY pergola projects, a good portion of the steps are applicable to pergolas built from kits as well.

Why Did You Choose Thatch & Why Is It Hanging Down Behind Your Outdoor Bar

No one has actually asked me this question, but Im just pre-emptively going to answer it for any of you who might have asked!

  • Ive mentioned needing to write a whole other post on why I came up with the design and roof I did, in order to keep this post short, so Ill have to address that there.
  • The short answer of why its hanging down is privacy! When youre lying in the chaise lounges on the far end of our pool, theres a couple bedroom windows in the house behind us that could look directly onto the chaises. Long story short, I realized that if I had the outdoor bar roof thatch hang down here, it created the perfect privacy wall without being too dramatic.
  • We even painstakingly designed the rooftop dimensions to give the perfect amounts of shade at the ideal times of day we were using it, and placed the beams at strategic inches, but thats a level of detail I wont get into with yall right now.

But those of you who know us know were going through an incredible amount of thoughtfulness behind the scenes of all our projects!

    The Size Of The Pergola

When determining the size of the pergola, there are three main options to consider:

  • You can build a small pergola that will only fit your tub. This is the least expensive option that will provide the desired comfort and coziness. Check out our Small Hot Tub Pergola Ideas section.)
  • You can build a larger pergola that will allow for a decking area around your sunken tub to serve as seating and provide space for a built-in bar. See the Hot Tub Pergola with Bar Ideas section for inspirational images.
  • You can build an over-sized pergola that will also house a seating patio area, a grill, and a fire pit, all under its roof.
  • Is It Cheaper To Diy Or Build A Pergola From A Kit

I answer this question by comparing cost estimates for homemade and premade pergolas, basically a from-scratch DIY vs. a purchased kit.

For comparison, I considered this highly reviewed, inexpensive 10×10 Pergola Kit from Home Depot, made from cedar . It retails for $1,144.44 + $92.84 = $1,236.84 .

Now lets create a material spec for a similar size and design DIY cedar pergola that you could have built yourself from a free plan.

Note: Please realize, this is a bulk estimate, as lumber prices fluctuate depending on location and availability. Though I tried to get the boards lengths as close as possible to those in the kit, some boards may not be available at the time of construction or at certain zip codes.

We will need the following materials.

  • 12 louvers 2x2x8 Premium S4S Cedar Lumber 12 x $10.98 = $131.76
  • Hardware:

  • 4 post anchors Set of 4 Bolt-Down Brackets$92.84
  • bolts 48 x $1 = $48 at least
  • Stain:

  • 1 gal Waterproofing Exterior Wood Stain and Sealer $37.98
  • Your Total cost:$1,183.78

We got close, with the DIY pergola even costing $40 more than a kit. So is it really worth it to build it from scratch? Not in my opinion. Of course, you could build one with pine for cheaper. But its not going to be the same. Plus you need to spend time cutting all of the components to size, possibly making those cool-looking rafter tails, and shopping for lumber.

How Much Does Home Depot Charge To Install A Pergola

Googling this question comes back with statements like these. For a basic 10-by-10 pergola, expect to pay up to $500 for labor. For high-end pergola installations, it can be anywhere from $750 to $1,000. I have my doubts. It should be less, I would think. But then again charges $499.99 for installation, so HD maybe offering a comparable charge. We included a link for Home Depot Pergola Installation in your specific area. Call them! These prices mentioned above may include permits and measurement fees.
